Why Silence is The Ultimate Pumpkin Spice Of White Privilege
A short explanation on why staying silent on social media is white privilege
I have been in the DMs on social media accounts that I love, asking them to post to their feed about the Black Lives Matter movement. Some of these accounts have responded by saying posting a picture of a black box to prove solidarity doesn’t do anything, or posting on social media doesn’t change anything, or you don’t know what I do offline and it’s none of your business what I do or don’t do, some have not responded at all and still some have responded with big claims to donate large sums of money but give no receipts of how they will actually contribute to the Black Lives Matter cause.
I have also been surprised that big businesses have spoken out and have been straight forward and clear about how they will support anti-racism in the community.
To be clear this isn’t a black issue this is an American issue. The community that is fighting for equal rights should have help from the community that already has equal rights. For the unequal cannot rise to be heard against the equal.
This video below says all I want to say in my head about why the silence of white people speaks volumes on social media.
